Popovers
- Breakfast
- United States
- Toddler friendly
Ingredients
- 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 Tb vegetable oil (not olive oil)
Instructions
- Heat the oven to hot (425F). Grease aluminum popover pans and set aside. (If glass cups are used, place them on a baking sheet in the oven to heat; remove and grease just before filling -- Pam spray works for greasing.) Measure all ingredients into a bowl and beat with a mixer until the mixture is very smooth. Fill the cups a little less than half full and bake in the preheated oven, without peeking, about 35 minutes, or until the sides are rigid to the touch. If drier popovers are desired, pierce each one with a knife and bake five minutes longer.
Note
In some ovens they can come out a little too brown -- if so, bake for 25 minutes at 425F, then drop the oven temperature to 350F and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes, without opening the oven door. It's important not to open the oven while they're baking, or the popovers will not rise properly.
