Cinnamon Challah
- Breakfast
- Serves 3 braided loaves
- Toddler friendly
Ingredients
- 2 tsp yeast
- 1 tsp honey
- 2/3 cup warm water
- 3 TB honey
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 eggs
- 4 cups flour
- 1/4 cup oil (for cinnamon mixture)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 TB sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt (for cinnamon mixture)
- 1 TB honey (for cinnamon mixture)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse sugar, for topping
Instructions
- Mix the yeast, honey, and warm water together and let sit for a bit. Add the remaining honey, olive oil, salt, and eggs, then gradually add the flour. Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes, wrap, and let rise in a warm area for 1-2 hours, until doubled.
- Mix together the cinnamon mixture ingredients (oil, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, salt, honey).
- Divide the dough into 3 equal pieces and roll each into a 1-foot log, then flatten each log to about 3 inches wide. Brush each with the cinnamon mixture, roll up lengthwise like a jellyroll, seal the ends, then braid the three logs together on a parchment-lined sheet pan.
- Brush the loaf all over with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through. Let cool before slicing.
